Nehemiah 1:2-4

² that ^(A)Hanani, one of my brothers, and ^[a]some men from Judah came; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped and remain from the captivity, and about Jerusalem. ³ They said to me, “The remnant there in the ^(B)province who remain from the captivity are in great calamity and ^(C)reproach, and ^(D)the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and ^(E)its gates are burned with fire.”

⁴ Now it happened that when I heard these words, ^(F)I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying before ^(G)the God of heaven.
